The essential practice here is timed free writing experiments, where you give yourself a fixed amount of time (start with ten minutes) and write as freely and quickly as you can without stopping, editing, crossing out, censoring yourself, or even thinking if you can help it. Keep your pen hand moving quickly the entire time (or keep your typing fingers moving). Don’t worry about margins, lines, misspellings, what you’re saying, disturbing content, anything at all – just let it rip. Once you get used to this basic practice (or return to it if you’ve done it before) there are some nuances and different approaches with which one can experiment (more on that in the workshops).
